At St. Mary’s school our uniform is a great source of pride. We ask our parents to please ensure that students’ are wearing the correct uniform at all times and wearing it with pride. We also ask parents to follow the below guidelines on jewellery, grooming and general dress.

Hair & Grooming Guidelines

Children are to be responsible for their own appearance and it would be appreciated if children could have clean shoes, shirts tucked in and socks up, as well as careful grooming and brushing of hair.

Hair should be

• Clean, neat and tidy.
• Long hair (collar length and longer) for both boys and girls should be tied back firmly away from the face. Boys fringes should not be hanging down into their eyes.
• Extreme hairstyles are not permitted.
• Rat’s Tails, shaved lines/patterns and mullets are not permitted.
• Coloured or dyed hair is not permitted.
• Number one haircuts are not permitted.
• Hair bands and hair ties can only be maroon and blue (school colours).

Dress Code

From Year One, children must wear correct uniform at all times (see uniform list).

Girls now have the option to wear the grey long pants or the grey shorts if they wish.

Boys have the option to wear either shorts or long pants all year round. For formal school events, boys are required to wear long pants.

If children are wearing the incorrect uniform a note will be sent home informing parents. If a child has a reason to be out of uniform, a written explanation to the class teacher is required from parents.

Boys and girls wear plain black lace up or black Mary Jane shoes (or plain brown leather school sandals in summer, velcro surf type sandals are not appropriate), and plain, mainly white sneakers for sport lessons.

Students must bring a hat to school every day, all year round. In Terms 1 and 4, and when the UV index is above 3 at other times of the year, students will be required to wear their hat when outside.

NOTE: Please ensure all items of clothing are clearly labelled.

Jewellery Guidelines

Boys and girls are permitted to wear

• a watch (provided it is not a smart watch with a recording device)
• a chain with a Holy medal
• studs or sleepers in lobe (small sleepers without accessories, two pairs maximum, no dangly ear rings)
• a Medic Alert bracelet (this is the only bracelet permitted)

Shoes to be worn from Year 1 upwards

Boys are to wear plain black lace up/velcro school shoes and girls wear black girls school shoes (see pics below). During the summer months, plain navy/black leather school sandals are permitted (velcro surf type sandals are not appropriate). Running shoes/ sneakers are to be worn on Thursday for sport lessons and at other agreed times (such as sports events). Proper school socks (not ankle socks) are to be worn and these can be purchased at the unform shop.
